Reliable clinical data collection across devices
Designing eCOA/ePRO tools that help clinical teams capture trial data with clarity and confidence.

The experience goals
Support accurate data entry.
Keep desktop and mobile journeys familiar.
Make system status clear, even on slow networks.
The challenge
Clinical trial data is collected by patients and clinicians through eCOA/ePRO tools. Clinical staff may work across devices during busy shifts, while hospital networks can be slow. The design challenge was to make data entry clear and dependable within these constraints, while reducing avoidable friction and visual fatigue.
The approach
I worked within an agile product team, grounding iterations in clinical teams’ day-to-day context. The experience was designed around device continuity, clear status feedback and timely validation, so staff could understand what the system had received and where to act next.
Design decisions tied to real working conditions
- Real-time validation and clear feedback at the point of entry.
- Consistent interaction landmarks across desktop and mobile.
- Visible system status to reduce uncertainty on slower connections.
- High-contrast, accessible patient tracking to support scanning.
- Iterative design shaped around busy, frequently interrupted workflows.
- Reduced learning effort for staff switching between devices.
