Context

Chugai Pharmaceutical’s clinical trials rely on data reported by patients and by clinicians (eCOA/ePRO). Their accuracy determines the trial’s compliance.

Here, a data-entry error is also a compliance risk. Hospital staff switch from desktop to mobile in the middle of a shift, and a slow or ambiguous tool quickly erodes their trust. The problem to solve: enable busy, frequently interrupted care teams to enter reliable data, without fatigue and without doubting the tool.

UX / CX Approach

  • Start from care teams’ day-to-day reality. Heavy shifts, switching from one device to another, slow hospital networks: the design starts from these real constraints, within an agile, iterative product team.
  • Catch the error the moment it happens. Real-time validation and clear feedback at the moment of entry avoid discovering an error too late, when it costs the most.
  • Don’t make people relearn the tool. The same landmarks on desktop and mobile shorten the learning curve for teams who switch devices.
  • Always show where the system stands. On a slow network, not knowing whether an entry has been saved damages trust. Showing the system status at all times preserves it.
  • Reduce visual fatigue. High-contrast, accessible patient tracking lets professionals follow treatment progress and adherence without wearing themselves out.

Impact

  • A data collection experience designed for accuracy and compliance: fewer opportunities for data-entry errors, by design.
  • Less friction between devices for care teams.
  • A tool clinical staff can rely on during trials.
